Gloucestershire hospitals go virtual to become greener and more efficient
Hopsitals in Gloucestershire have boosted their eco credentials and saved money by going virtual. MSoft has completed the upgrade of IT at both the Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal, part of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust has successfully migrated from having a number of servers to a virtual one, giving significant space back to the Trust and saving money on electricity normally required to power multiple machines.
The Trust has used BloodHound, MSoft’s web-based electronic blood tracking technology for a number of years. BloodHound controls access to and from all blood fridges, providing further enhanced security and safety by ensuring that only approved staff are allowed to access blood.
By moving to virtualisation, the Gloucestershire hospitals are able to confirm the receipt of blood on to ward using the web interface, whereas previously the only way of doing this was by using handheld devices.
Matt McAlister, Managing Director of MSoft, said: “The successful upgrade in Gloucestershire is in line with the Government’s commitment to rolling out a programme of virtualisation. “Gloucestershire and other Trusts which move towards virtualisation will achieve a number of significant objectives including becoming more efficient, greener and, most importantly of all, saving considerable sums of money.
“Very few companies in our sector are able to deliver virtualisation to clients, but it is a key part of our client strategy. Continually looking to enhance our clients’ technology is central to our desire to build long term relationships.”
The successful upgrade in Gloucestershire follows a number of successful client wins for MSoft. The company has signed deals with the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to deliver its blood-tracking technology.
The contract wins come at the end of a successful few months for MSoft which has carried out major projects with a number of other Trusts including Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, the Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust and the Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust.
